[Scribus] alternate fonts

I compile without error and install scribus-0.9.10 on SuSe 8.1 with qt
3.0.5.
OK but the alternate font paths is greyed out! Am I wrong? Have I missed
something?
 Moreover the font gizmo shows exactly the location of the used fonts, which
is good; but the font picker has not changed and retains its clumsiness.
I have not exercised the program to the degree the development team has, so
I won't comment further.
