[Scribus] CVS start + CMYK tiffs

Hallo,

in the downloaded cvs tree I could not find generic intructions. This
resulted in fiddeling with copies from the last tarball for many files and
so on. After figuring out that:
aclocal
automake (with many messages)
autoconf - failed with:
Scribus> autoconf

and an copy of acinclude.m4 from the last tarball to CVS tree following with
autoconf
configure

worked somehow ...
Dont know how I resolved dependencies, maybe while copying over
Makefile.in from various directories.

Anyway, after this gcc did not find about.moc, prefs.moc ... maybe more.

At this state I write here. Can someone send me an working! tarball of the
current CVS or prepair CVS for more simple usage at the start level?

Hope I can continue within the CVS tree soon.



Color space / gamut checking / preview/print destination / PDF 16-bit?

As I could see in LoadPict You use the basic RGBA loader for tiffs
(scribus-1.1.7). While this is ok for an roughly colorunmanaged preview,
difficulties start with embedding such an image in an pdf assigning the
old (for that RGBA image invalid) ICC profile. Ok as this is the matter I
want work on in scribus my questions are:

- How can I find out what kind of intention is LoadPict of
  (preview/print)?
- What color space does You prefere to get the converted preview image to?
  sRGB (most close to the monitor or Lab including full gamut and therefor
  gives meaningfull gamutchecking).

    For illustration: I included an
    separated image in scribus and wanted to preview and output to the
    same cmyk color space. Nearly all colors where out of gamut! The
    conversions should not touch any color and print everything as it was
    for the same printer. Even taking an profile with much wider gamut
    showed most areas as out of gamut.
    The gamutcheck is a very nice feature of scribus. Hope to get it work
    for all color spaces.

  I think sRGB and the tiff RGBA loader is nice for unmanaged images.
  While CIE*Lab is an better choice for the relyability of
  colormanagement.

  8-bit precission

- output for pdf would contain color space of the image data untouched

  Is it ok to simply allow 8-bit and 16-bit integer input only? So no
  float and 12 or 32-bit integer images can be handled. (This is not
  possible with the current RGBA tiff loader as well.)
  16-bit -> PDF?


Please correct me and tell me about the available mechanism to detect the
usage (view/print) of the LoadPict image.
