I want to second this. In the Fink port for Mac OS X, I patched 
picstatus.cpp accordingly (replacing /home by $HOME), because on Mac OS 
X a directory "/home" doesn't even exist (the users' home directories 
are by default in "/Users", but could be configured to be anywhere). It 
doesn't seem reasonable to me to search other people's home directories 
for pictures - you could have nasty surprises :-)
