The problem witch jpeg is the compression. The quality of the picture 
will get worser and worser with every saving. I use png without any 
compression. Tiff is also a good format, but you should use gimp for 
saving the pictures with tiff before you insert it into scribus, 
because there are many different versions of tiff. But GIMP and 
scribus use the same tif-library. So it's a good decision to save the 
tiff-pictures with gimp.
