Not necessarily: The applesystemfonts package only looks for files whose 
names end in *.dfonts, plus some specific filenames without extension, 
like Arial, Verdana and other M$ fonts. These are run through fondu. 
Fondu, however, seems to understand more Apple font formats, so there is 
a possibility that it might work with your font files, too.
