[Scribus] Latest CVS vs. Fink (was Scripts, linking frames etc.)

I would like to use the SetStyle() command in a script for my current
project, but
it is only available in 1.2cvs. I currently get Scribus via Fink
(10.2-gcc3.3,
unstable). I tried a "fink selfupdate-cvs" but I guess the Fink CVS
for scribus is not
the same as the latest Scribus CVS.
Can I just install the lastest Scribus CVS in /usr/local wihtout
messing up the Fink
version? (My preference is to continue to use Fink as my primary
source for Scribus.)
Do I have to uninstall the Fink Scribus? Is compiling Scribus from the
source straight-forward
on Mac OS 10.2.8? Or, am I better off doing my style-setting manually
this time around and
wait for the SetStyle() command to trickle into Fink? (I have about 40
pages with multiple styles
on each one, all following the same layout.)
Thanks,
Carol
