Font rendering in Acrobat Reader can be affected by two issues:

1) Sometimes, Acrobat Reader will substitute fonts and/or use "local" variants 
which are installed locally on the machine. Notes and hints  on this are on 
docs.scribus.net Changing this is explained in the docs, as there is no UI in 
the Linux version, unlike Win and Mac versions :(

2) There are settings for changing the anti aliasing for both fonts and line 
artwork in Acro Reader perferences. The defaults are for line art anti 
aliasing off. Again, hints are on docs.scribus.net and in the Acro Reader 
help manual.

g and kpdf are based on xpdf which has much improved text display in the 3.x 
version. However, some PDF 1.4 features like transparency are not supported.
