Unfortunately, when it comes to the binary distros I don't think you'll
find much that satisfies those requirements.

Expect to need to do that for a while longer.

You can avoid that with Debian, where malex makes packages. If I get the
time and get it working properly I'll be doing static-binary builds of
Scribus for (almost) any distro, but that'll be a while off (need to
rewrite the plug-in API first).

Again, I don't think that'll be easy to get around... probably a build-
it-yourself case again.

I don't know if any distros bundle that. I wouldn't be too surprised if
they do though. Of course, Inkscape will just release 0.42 ;-) but you
can always use their static builds.

Ditto.

One of the current problems with Linux distros is that unless you use a
source-based distro you do have to compile stuff, including some
dependencies, when running very up-to-date software. I'm hoping we can
eventually start shipping "big and fat, but working" static builds of
Scribus to make life easier on users.
