If you like Perl more than Java, hava a look at http://www.otrs.org. 
It's written completely in object-oriented Perl (there are not many 
projects where the code looks really beautiful, that's certainly one of 
them). It also is quite extensible and provides a customer interface, so 
you should able to adapt it to your needs quite easily.
