I'm not going to use GS. Too many problems with it (mainly in the extra
installs and duplication - something I've found Win32 users don't like).

Not really. The approach I'm taking is to see how wxWidgets does it and
then add that into the main source code. It's not reinventing the wheel,
but it does offer many advantages! As for amount of time it'll take,
dunno is the best answer at the moment (darned machine is a spyware
magnet and also had a HD crash within 80 hours of install)
