I don't know if this is related or not, but in a recent re-test of 
importation of PDFs, I noted that Scribus fails to be able to show an 
imported PDF when it contains an SVG image.  Not a thouroughly tested 
phenomenon, but at least none of the files I checked would work.  All 
displayed properly in Adobe Reader.
