[Scribus] Aqua version: can't see new documents

I just installed the recent (October) Aqua scribus, and all the  
goodies...ghostscript, libraries, freetype..
I can launch Scribus without warning or issue, but when I make a new  
document, no window appears!

Under the Window menu in Scribus, I can see "Document 1" "Document 2"  
but there are no windows anywhere.
My monitor resolution is 1280 x 1024, so I know there's plenty of  
room for even a corner of a window to be seen.

Any suggestions?
