Probably worth mentioning that, although I haven't used it for anything 
major, Abiword has interesting import/export features, including:

import: all the usual, plus LaTeX, Open Document, Wordperfect, DocBook, HTML
export: HTML, LaTeX, DocBook/XML, PDF, nroff, .eml...
