I haven't actually tried this, so I'm not 100% sure how well it will
work, but how about:
1. Saving the white silhouette of the logo (with a nice smooth edge)
as a PNG with transparent background (assuming you have the logo as a
picture on a background, you can do this in GIMP)
2. Putting the PNG in a picture box with a transparent background
3. Putting the box over the box with the text (*without* making the
text wrap around the box).
This way you can still change the text, move the logo around, etc.
I remember that PNGs with transparency are definitely transparent when
you put them over other pictures; I can't remember if I ever tried
putting them over text.

Thanks everybody!
I'm trying your methods right now!
The problem is, however, that scribus starts to crash when I try
them... Only 1 alinea Ipsum Lorem and my logo is enough!
Adrianna, I don't think I know what you mean? It sounds very
promising, but if I do that, won't the logo also be visible outside
the letters? (it should look like the 'green' in example 4 here:
www.market-square.info/pages/pdf_design.htm (tnx cedric)
And Andreas, where can I get that version (the 1.3.4cvs-version)?
(because that also sounds promising)

You have to checkout from anonymous cvs, described here:
http://docs.scribus.net/index.php?lang=en&page=install1
First install the newest cairo, at least 1.1.6 or 1.1.8. Download from here:
http://www.cairographics.org/download
You should probably download from git since both cairo & Scribus are
developing
at a fast pace in this area.
Then configure Scribus as "make -f Makefile.cvs; ./configure --with-cairo
..." or
"cmake -DWANT_CAIRO=1" (depending on what build system you want to use)
and build.
This is only true for Linux/Unix though. Cairo isn't supported for
Scribus/Aqua yet
and for Scribus/Win32 you'd have to wait till the first snapshot is
available.
/Andreas
P.S.
In fact I just mentioned this because I didn't want the discussion to drift
to other products only :-) Normal users will have to wait a little until
this
feature becomes stable enough.

How do I print to custom size of paper? I have created a document 297
wide x 280 high and I cannot see how to set the paper size.
If I try to set the paper size in the printer to custom I don't get the
option to define the size.

Alex,
what about the idea of making a 1.3.4cvs in order to have 3 different
versions in parallel?
Many thanks for the 1.3.3.2

Hi everybody,
I know this bug seems not very important (I noticed that when I talk
about it on ML), but for me it's a real problem.
This is the bug:
http://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=1908
(Typing ^o in text frame doesn't make ?)
If somebody have any idea, it's really a problem for me, cause I spend
many time typing the text in text frames, and during an emergancy (I
mean when I finish an issue) it's really boring.
I think it's beacuse I have QT 3.5 (on other computers with Qt 3.4,
there's not that problem): is there a way to come back to Qt 3.4?
Many thanks

I wonder if perhaps Scribus should consider a new approach to this,
which might help many more of us who don't use dead keys.
Example 1: Having an assignable keyboard shortcut, such as Shift+Ctrl+^,
then o produces ?.
Example 2: being able to enter the HTML ??, perhaps with a leading
backslash.

IMHO there are enough ways to enter special characters with
the keyboard:
*ISO 14755 with F12+hexcode: F12 + f + 4 (+spaces) gives ?
*keyboard layouts with dead keys enabled: ^ + o gives ?
*using the compose key. e.g. hold Compose and type o + ^

I don't think hexcodes will ever be a useful solution -- too many to
remember.

I tried deadkeys for a while, but if you're not using accented
characters much, it gets annoying to double type the dead key to get its
original character.

I don't even know what a compose key is...
When I used Amigas years ago, they had a system that worked like the
deadkey but didn't involve losing a printable character to do it.

Wikipedia is your friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compose_key
It is quite easy to define a compose key (if your distribution
has not set up a key for you). You don't need to change your x.org
config file. You can change the keys with the setxkbmap tool or a GUI
frontend like the KDE Keyboard Tool kxkb:
http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase/kxkb/xkboptions-config.html

Care to explain how it worked?

Helge
