[Scribus] CMYK image processing

Hi list,

I don't intend to disturb or supress this very
exciting discussion in any way, this is only a side
note about a phenomenon I've noticed. Whenever Scribus
is being mentioned and there are some DTP pros around,
we are always confronted with the same, predictable
question: "And what about CMYK support in _GIMP_?"

Obviously, Scribus is mainly perceived not as a
standalone application, but as an integral part of a
virtual "Open Source Graphic Suite" for Unices:
Scribus, Gimp, Inkscape. Nice idea, but not true. As I
see it, the 2 other tools are interchangeable, and
there is no reason to blame their shortcomings on
Scribus devs, they have nothing to do with them. Even
Linux isn't a must... You like and need Photoshop,
perhaps you paid a lot for it for once: why not simply
using it in your Scribus related toolchain? No
problem on win32 and mac, even on Linux is Photoshop
fully supported with CrossOverOffice and Wine, see
this link:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=1815

The same applies to Corel:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=2670

Actually, only recently I helped a friend, who is a
Photoshop addict and a Scribus user, to set up
Photoshop with CrossoverOffice on his Linux box -- it
was easier than expected, you needn't be a rocket
scientist to achieve this.

just a side note
Maciej
