My fault, I didn't explain. X11 also uses fontconfig and might do a
better job at initializing it on your system than Scribus. So the procedure
would be:

1. Install X11, quit X11, check if Scribus runs
2. run "sudo fc-cache -fv", check if Scribus runs
3. else report a bug
