This remains the same for any OSS project throughout its development cycles:
Write code (perhaps even join the team of coders?)
Test
Make sample docs for testing with
Write documentation
etc

1.3.5 will not be a year
1.3.6 will not be a year

1.3.4 was too long and we could probably have released a few versions in that 
time frame, however somethings were started together instead of separately 
and things took a little too long. The text rewrite was a major major change 
and brought major advances, not the least of which is the underlying code 
which will now extend much better than before.

We would hope to keep major releases to 2-4 months, and will endeavour to do 
so in the future.

Also, just because its OSS, does not mean it takes less time to write than 
commercial software. How long between InDesign 1.0 and 1.5 and 2.0 and 3.0..? 
Then consider the money poured into such a project and the numbers of 
developers involved. So, you could add to the above list.. "donate money" if 
you are so inclined, although dont take that as a request please, just a 
statement. 

We do what we can in the time we have... with the best intentions and goals in 
mind.
