[Scribus] page-numbers

Hi,
I have problems getting pagenumbers in my document.
I am using Scribus 1.3.3.8. I am following the guide-lines from the wiki 
"Pagination".
In "edit master page"-mode I inserted a textframe with the symbol (in my 
case "ctr-shift-#"), but after hitting the button "update text frame and 
exit" nothing appears in the textframe. I would expect to find the 
symbols "##" inside the text frame. I made sure the fontsize is small 
enough to fit into the frame and the colour of the font is default (black).
In other scribus-documents (earlier versions of Scribus) I never had 
this problem.
Am I missing something?
