You might want to check that you have 2-4 GB of virtual memory available.

context menu of image frame: preview settings->display image

That's not feasible. You or anyone else is invited to program an application
like Scribus without using Qt, we wont.

The large number of problems related to Qt is just because we use Qt for
everything.

RAM: min. 256 MB, recommended 1GB
virtual memory: 1 GB or more

If you handle large images, I'd say 1GB RAM plus 2 GB virtual memory
is more reasonable.

This example image takes with full resolution approx. 100 MB.
How many of these do you have? If the memory adds up to more than
2 GB, there's no way Scribus can handle it (adding virtual memory
will not help after 2GB on a 32bit platform).

We will improve Scribus so it doesnt need to create the full resolution
images
in memory any more, but that will be in 1.3.6 or (likely) later.
