Hello Roger,
Since you primary system now has Ubuntu libraries the scribus that you
probably compiled by yourself under FC6 cannot run because it was compiled
against different libraries. You have a couple of options now:
1. Remove the directory where you installed scribus previously and use
aptitude, synaptic, or apt to install the "scribus" package from our
repositories thus switching to automatically getting updates when we issue
them without a need to compile and install your own scribus instance. See
http://wiki.scribus.net/index.php/Getting_Scribus_on_Ubuntu/Kubuntu_up_and_running
and http://debian.scribus.net.
2. Download the scribus 1.3.3.9 tarball and compile your own scribus instance
again. See http://wiki.scribus.net/index.php/Building_CVS_versions_with_CMake
for more information.

We (i.e. I on behalf of Scribus Team) maintain our own Debian/ubuntu scribus
package archive just so that the Debian/'buntu users wouldn't have to go
through the hassle of compiling and maintaining their own scribus
installations. I currently support the three main Debian branches -
unstable/testing/stable and three most recent Ubuntu releases - Feisty, Edgy,
and Dapper.
You should save your own time and effort and get your newbie friends to use a
graphical package manager i.e. synaptic or Adept or whatever else Ubuntu is
pushing these days. I personally use aptitude on Debian, but that's a matter
of individual preference I suppose. If you tell them to use synaptic or adept
they won't ever have to edit /etc/apt/sources.list. This page -
http://wiki.scribus.net/index.php/Getting_Scribus_on_Ubuntu/Kubuntu_up_and_running
explains the process using Adept with screenshots to make it easier. Please
note that screenshots use dapper and you should use edgy as explained in
http://debian.scribus.net.
If you run into any troubles while going along with the above documents or
have more questions please reply to the list, contact me directly, or join the
#scribus IRC channel on freenode where you can get real-time help.
Cheers,
Alex.
