the biggest problem with windows is, that we don't know what else is installed on your computer.

antivirus (eventually viruses and trojans), firewall, printer utilities, acrobat utilities, office startup enhancer, ... all of them can eat up your system's ram and cpu before you can even think about working!

with linux, most of the time, you should know what's running on your computer. as long you're the only one logged in.
