For long texts with footnotes, references, index and TOC don't use Scribus
now. Try OO.o or LyX.
For posters, catalogs, newspaper/brochures, photo albums etc. Scribus works
quite well.
It really depends on your needs. Some people use Scribus just for the cover
and use something
else for the inside of a book.
