[Scribus] Importing Postscript and/or Doc files.

If I can import PostScript, OO  or .doc files which is the easier or more 
efficient format to import? 

 Must I create enough linked pages to hold the entire file (178 page book) or 
will Scribus add pages automatically? I had one such import stall permanently 
with the meter showing 30% imported.

Using 1.3.5 on Linux.
