[Scribus] Segmentation Fault

Hi all
I fresh installed Linux FC8 and cannot load blender 2.44 or 2.45
2.44 requires python 2.4 , a backward step, not allowed by rpm and FC8 has 
python 2.5, all in all bit of a problem.

Blen2.45 starting via terminal reports a segmentation fault --- what is that and 
how can it be fixed.
Googling reports that others are finding this segmentation fault a problem also 
and there are no reports on how to fix it.

yum install, compiling from cvs or downloading the compiled versions make no 
difference.
Situation remains.
  Can someone shed some light on this please.
