I've used this argument to some effect:

     'It is interesting to note that even government is starting
     to notice what's going on re free software, and support for
     Open Source products is starting to manifest itself as
     policy, for example see

     which sates amongst other assertions that:

         “UK Government will consider OSS solutions alongside
         proprietary ones in IT procurements. Contracts will be
         awarded on a value for money basis”.'


As a school governor, schools particularly annoy me.  The notion that 
they should teach MS because 'that's what's used in the workplace' makes 
for a self fulfilling prophecy.  Further, they particularly seek MS 
skills when recruiting their IT managers.  Damn !!

With my employers hat on though, nothing would make me happier than a 
new recruit walking in the door and showing me a better way of doing 
something that is also free !
