[scribus] Mac Tiger install problem

I have just (yesterday) downloaded the Aqua version of Scribus and extracted
it to the APPs direcory. Python is installed as is Ghostscript, but double
clicking the  Scribus icon , gives a flash in the dock and then it vanishes.

The install instructions don't suggest I need to do anything else, but
obviously I am missing something, can anyone help.
