I checked this out with 1.3.3.13svn and it works well.

What also doesn't work well is to use pdf2ps, then ps2pdf13. For one 
thing, this turned a 40K PDF into a 9.6MB PS, then a 1.5MB PDF, and took 
an inordinate amount of time. Besides that the resulting PDF1.3 file was 
of poor quality -- the transparency was flattened, but the text looked 
very bad (this was a font that was outlined).

Okular doesn't seem to have a method to save as a PS file, or print to file.
