Hi,

sudden crashes should not appear. I have been able to put together a 
30page a5 portfolio broshure full of technical drawings (e.g. lots of 
scaled-down cad drawings containing hatches and too much detail), which 
may be one of the worst cases, and it does not crash. On my 5.5 years 
old G4 powerbook - 867MHz and 1GB Ram ;-)

Still, to set up an environment you need to know what you are going to 
do. Are you working on books, articles, one-page projects? Of course 
Scribus is rather hungy for memory and cpu power - but on the infinite 
scala between a multi-cpu shared memory system and a power-effective 
laptop, you need some guesses about your specific need.

Besides that, when talking about hardware, you should probably also 
think about color management issues. In many cases, some few less MHz, 
but a nice light setup at your work-place and a calibration decive for 
the screen will give more comfort. Also think about such issues when 
choosing your platform (e.g. Windows, Linux, Mac, Solaris, ...) - how 
well documented and relyable is the workflow for working with 
postscript, color etc. I have been working on Windows, Mac and Linux 
now, and while installing scribus is rather easy on all of them, a 
complete set-up including color management, additional tools for vector- 
and pixel-editing as well as scripting and postscript- or pdf-processing 
takes a while.
