[scribus] Can't get a good PDF

I'm using 1.3.5.rc3 and the latest ghostscript and I can't make a good pdf from my 8-page color newsletter. I can send it directly to the printer, using my HP DeskJet 930C, and that turns out OK, but I need a good pdf for the printer. Is there a troubleshooting ladder I can use to fix this issue?  The pdf I generate drops whole sections of pictures and text. GSView 4.9 reports post scrip errors, but I can't tell what they are and how to fix them. Here's the text:
