Wow, that gets me a lot closer!
I was trying to enter the objects in the Story Editor window. It didn't
work, and I couldn't find anything about it on the wiki, so I assumed
the feature was not possible. But it does work if you paste it directly
in the text frame. Thanks for the information.
Now I need to refine it a bit to get it to work.
I created a vertical line 3 points wide by 15 points long. That should
be long enough for two lines of the text I am using, which is at 15
points leading. As an experiment I made a paragraph of two lines and
made each line a separate line by hitting Enter at the end of each line
(separate paragraph, really, i.e., no text wrap). I pasted my line in
front of the first line of text. The bottom of the line sat on the
baseline and the top extended above the line by another line width. So
then I deleted it and tried pasting it in front of the second line.
Again it sat on the baseline of the second line and extended upwards by
another line. This would have been fine except that the line had text
wrap set on it (or so it appears), so it made a line space between the
two lines.
I also tried it by leaving the text as a regular paragraph with normal
text flow. It still doesn't work because the line has text wrap on it.
I can't figure out how to turn off text wrap on the line.
