[scribus] Huge PDF, need suggestions

well, you may use (solid) 10% gray instead of making a solid black 
rectangle 90% transparent...

are you sure that there is no transparency in there? are the lines 
behind the text?


but, for now, try the hint to create a ps file from yor pdf 1.4... it 
may work!
