Hi,

Just try this;

1. Create a text frame
2. Add some text, and highlight the text
3. Select text in the Properties Box
4. Select a color for the text (top item - Colors and Effects)
5. Switch to the Colors Tab of properties
6. Adjust opacity

An example of this procedure (text at 10% opacity) is at

I wonder if you are selecting the frame with the text, maybe you are
selecting something else? How did you put the border on the text frame?
Are you selecting that?
