I simply followed your advice: I renamed the initial photos folder, and
created a new one with photos resized to 10%  of their initial size. So, I'm
now working on the layout with 220 pictures around 60-110 Ko each.

When the layout will be completed, I intend to run several batches from
Digikam (I will need one per final size) to resize and sharpen the photos
that will be included in the PDF/X-3 document.
