i had a look at the pdf you're producing and i am amazed by the fact that you succeed in doing that with word!
using scribus -- or any "real" DTP package -- will make your life much simpler for several reasons.
but you wil also have to learn how to use it. and that will take time. and it will also make some parts of you work less flexible.
the best thing you can do, is to find somebody in your "neighborhood" who can help you get started on this and who can help you solve the problems you encounter.
you may also start using scribus with a smaller and easier document than your magazine (like a brochure).
for now, i think the best is indeed to keep on working with your current workflow but, who knows, one day you may try again to move to an program which is better suited for publishing a magazine!
