[scribus] Reduction in size

I have a document (a book cover) that is complete, and is 
exported to PDF X/1-a to keep LSI happy. But the original 
from my customer was in jpg which I converted to tiff and 
CMYK color space using ImageMagick.  I did the final in 
Scribus 1.5.0.  The file is huge, 18MB. 

Is there a way to reduce it without losing the vital PDF X/1-a 
notation?
