When you say, "incompatible with Scribus" I would want you to understand 
that at most, Scribus can load the first page of a PDF into an image 
frame. Scribus cannot edit PDFs, it is for making them.

You might try uploading a smallish PDF to the bugs site:

http://bugs.scribus.net/main_page.php

to let people have a look at it.

Another alternative might be getting OpenOffice.org, loading the .doc or 
.rtf, and making a PDF from there.
