[scribus] help with portuguese characters

please, i just installed the software and started to use it,
but i want to use content in portuguese using the following ã é ä ç â à,
the normal characters of the language,
but with scribus the features pressing alt do not work.

i searched for info but could not fix.

anyone knows how to fix it?
