Pointing out what I suspect is the obvious,
<20110217195126.42f96bc4 at mailhost.pdx.edu>, which started this thread,
states that the OS in question is Lucid, which is Ubuntu 10.04. So I'm not
sure how the behaviour can confirm a bug in Ubuntu 10.10.

It may well be that the same bug exists in 10.10, but I don't think we've
seen any definite evidence to that effect in this thread.
