As we used to say in the Amateur Radio Club, we were all novices once.
So don't be shy of this list. I ask questions all the time. The only
stupid question is the one a person was too shy to ask.

Let me clear up one point. The color palette you use can be as varied
as you want. If you CLOSE all jobs, go to Edit->colors, you can make a
selection of any of several palettes. My favorite is Scribus Open Office
which has roughly 80 colors. And you can construct new colors in CMYK
notation. You have to select a color first (any color) and then click
on "new". I just did that. You fill in the name and the values. Then
and save it. It becomes added to the current palette which you can
then save.

Some shades may require low levels of certain colors. But they still
do not require transparency, which may not be allowed by some printer
profiles. For example C=0,M=10,Y=0,K=0 yields a very pale pink suitable
for simulating colored paper.

I use the Galaxy Gauge Color Map Pro for reference and inspiration
both for individual shades and appropriate combinations. It is truly
a jewel of a product and I highly recommend it.
