Ian,
Some may be, like me, totally ignorant of pdftops and ps2pdf.  In addition,
I'm lost with respect to your reference to "Vol 34, No 51",  I have no clue
what that refers to.

BTW, I updated my Scribus-ng last week and got 1.4.0 as a result.  Can't
tell much difference from 1.3.9, but I'm about to finish my issue of the
magazine for this quarter with 1.4.0 and it seems to work pretty well.
