I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill!
Just do as the wiki and other people have said, especially build it in
a separate directory. Build it in your home directory as Greg
suggests, that way there is no chance of "doing damage"
Just try it, you don't have to delete other instances. Might be worth
while hanging onto them for a while so you don't run into
comparability problems with older sla files?
Don't do it by JohnC's script till you have done it the wiki way, then
you will know what's going on.
