Back in the early '80s I worked with the late Dan Alderson of JPL as his 
"seeing eye person."  He loved PL/I, and even wrote PL/I programs in 
FORTRAN when he had to.  Of course, he was a genius, and JPL is still 
using his programs to navigate space probes.
