I was aware of the layer "problem" and knew how to turn it around, however, as I face the same positioning problem, could somebody tell me how to reset it for each page to the top left corner ? Thanks in advance, Raymonde (1.4.0)

Undoubtedly, I did something really screwy and now I cannot figure out how
to undo my mess. First, I noted a bunch of objects that had changed sizes
and positions on some previously completed pages of my 60 page document.
None were locked. Next, the positions of objects seemed to have become
relative to the top and left side of the document, rather than to each
page's top and left border. I managed to get that straightened out, but
now I have a totally confusing situation where I cannot select an object by
left or right clicking on it.
I can select the object with the Outline dialog, and modify the object by
right clicking on the object line in the Outline dialog. The proper menu
does appear when using the Outline window and the object may be edited.
However, since I cannot left click on the object and select it, the menu
that I should see when a selected object is right-clicked on, does not
appear. Instead, a different, longer menu appears, without any items to
allow editing text for a text window, or getting an image for an image
window.
Any ideas what to check or un-check or what I may have done? Is there a
setting somewhere to prevent selecting an object by clicking on it?

Seems bizarre...are you sure you're on the correct layer?
version 1.4.0?
I guess I would try a couple of things:
Save document, shutdown, start Scribus (maybe even reboot the computer).
Open document.
Start a new document to see if you get the same behavior.
The third thing would be to upload the doc to bugs, make it private if
you wish.

Thanks, Greg. I never use layers so I didn't think of that. Actually, it
was that I had inadvertently locked the background layer (where everything
resides) while attempting to fix the positioning problem. I appreciate the
assistance. Guess I should look into layers though a printed page for my
rag will only ultimately have one layer and I am the only person to see it
before it's printed, so the reasons to use layers others have stated did
not seem to apply to me. But, ignorance being what it is ...
