This has been a variable problem in the past, seemingly most
frequent/persistent with Ubuntu.
Make sure you have the latest, greatest, up to date Scribus -- 1.4.0
I just tried with Fedora 16 KDE using a Compose key, and had no problem
in Story Editor or editing directly in the frame.
