The reason I answered like that is that I didn't know. Now that I check 
it out, I find that, while the colors are converted to grayscale, the 
image remains in RGB space.

This having been said, when you export to PDF with Output intended for: 
Printer in the Color tab of the PDF export, you should get conversion of 
RGB images to CMYK by Scribus.
