It changes when new tags are added, but the basic text ones generally do not change.. and that does
not change the fact that they have their source files that are text files they can open in a unicode
text editor.
Despite the true fact that the format changes as you say, this does not change the fact that they
can easily get their text out, and other data like placement information, style information, colour
information. Ok, its not perfect, but it is readable by a basic editor, and the source code to read
it is available for both reading and writing for every single file format change.
