[scribus] inserting a single page .pdf into a newsletter

I am new to Scribus (using 1.4.0), but am planning to use it for our Club's newsletter.  I am trying to import a single page .pdf file into an image frame, but when I do, all I get is the name of the pdf file in the center of the X within the frame.  When I try a print preview, it says I have a "missing image".  What am I doing wrong?
