Thanks for this. You have solved my problem.

I searched for *prefs1*.* and this found a number including prefs140.xml
- I changed the left and top to small figures and on restarting Scribus
the Text Editor box reappeared!

I found the xml file at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Scribus - perhaps you could post this omitting my user name?
