[scribus] "Open Existing" dialog never displays anything

Oh I see what you mean: the GUI style, not the GUI. I'm using the default: Oxygen.

Makes no difference to the problem.

It looks to me like whatever call is used to obtain the information that is
supposed to be put into the dialog is simply hanging, so the information is
never available to display on the screen.
