If you want to have 1.5.0 to learn it then I
suggest you set up a Linux partition (I use
slackware), download and compile the svn version
(script on request) and have at it. 
The stable version 1.4.4 is usable for most jobs.
No one forces you to use 1.5.0. 

MSWindows is IMO a self-inflicted wound. But if
you insist on Windows then I suggest you stick
to the released version for that platform.
